3 Signs that you're not ready for the next level

"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan? - Jeremiah 12:5

3 Signs that you're not ready for the next level

This is going to be a hard word...but simply put...you need to hear it. Flick your thumb through any number of timelines and you'll find countless pictures loaded with inspirational words and images. We get just enough hit off of their encouragement to satiate any real motivation to GROW.  The irony of this blog post is that you may feel so good about actually reading it that you miss the whole point, so without pulling any punches, I'm just going to come right out and say it --- My hope and prayer in writing this is that you DO SOMETHING. Here's three ways you can evaluate whether or not you're ready for the next level:

1. You have a collection of unfinished to-do lists.

To-Do lists do not appreciate in value! There isn't a market for partially completed journals, calendars, and notepads. Every unfulfilled to-do list on your phone, on your desk, and on your shelf represents INCONSISTENCY. You score zero points for beginning something and not seeing it through. Failure to plan is planning to fail. You are consistently inconsistent.

the fix: Be more realistic about what you can do. "Inch by inch everything's a cinch. Yard by yard, it gets real hard". Make bite-sized goals. Complete them in succession and you gain the prize of consistency - MOMENTUM.

2. You constantly complain.

If you truly do plan to go to the next level (and have gone up levels previously) you understand that your life is currently the EASIEST it will ever be. Here's another way of putting it: your mouth cannot sustain the shear amount of complaints it will produce if you went to the next level...at the rate of your current complaining. May I also add, the hallmark of true leadership is never complaining. You're not ready for leadership until you're ready to assume all of the blame and none of the credit (someone tweet this haha).

the fix: Words are powerful! Begin to count your complaints. Physically tally them, and work to reduce the number. As you protect your mouth from deploying complaints, you're also guarding ears from hearing them! Protecting ears IS protecting minds. Protecting minds, changes actions!

bonus: Some of you reading are only a "word" away from leveling up!

3. Your endurance barely gets you through your current day.

True leaders are always increasing their capacities. If you're tapping out at your current level (Jeremiah says, "you couldn't even keep up with the men on foot, but you want to compete with horses?!) why in the world would you think God would release more influence for you to steward? You can make all the social media posts you want about how you're destined to run with horses, but your friends, family, and co-workers are watching you get winded in foot races.

the fix: Let your reality determine your next reality. Most people try to label a "fantasy" as a "dream". They live the fantasy and speak the dream. Live the reality and build the dream. Come on, somebody!
